1. Movito Electric Scooter

We live in a world where the need for lighter, more efficient vehicles is glaringly apparent, and in recent times designers and automotive manufacturers have ramped up their efforts to meet this challenge. Given this climate it's not surprising to see the enviro-conscious "Movito" scooter design receive accolades in the Create the Future Design Contest. Engineer/Designer Tiam Chiem's Movito is a 2-modular design consisting of an upper scooter chassis and the base which provides the drive via an in-wheel electric motor and hubless front wheel. The modular design allows a range of possible morphs, including multiple bodies to be connected to the base or two bases to be connected in parallel to form a two-seater.

2. Green Cement

With the latest advances in biomimicry, scientists have created a cement manufacturing process, known as the Calera process, that incorporates waste CO2 emissions. The process mimics the natural formation of sea corals, using spent CO2 as a raw material. The method will consume about a half ton of CO2 for every ton of cement.

Yoggie Security Systems has squeezed a hardware firewall for Windows into a USB key sized form-factor. The "Yoggie Pico" runs Linux 2.6 along with 13 security applications on a 520MHz PXA270, a powerful Intel processor popular in smartphones and high-end consumer devices.

Another excellent energy saving product that automatically switches off peripheral devices, such as a printer or speaker, when the 'master' device - a desktop computer or hi-fi amplifier - is switched off.
